Oregon Senate advances bill to shield consumers from medical debt on credit reports
1 min read
The Oregon Senate passed a bill Wednesday that would prohibit medical providers and debt collectors from reporting medical debt to credit bureaus.
The bill now heads to the Oregon House of Representatives for further discussion.
The move is a significant step to protect consumers from the financial repercussions of medical debt. According to the Oregon Value and Beliefs Center, the high costs of care and financial barriers have forced nearly one in three Oregonians to incur medical debt in the past two years.
