‘Disappointed’: PPS board member describes abrupt ending to $1.8B bond discussion

Wells, Jefferson, and Cleveland high schools would be modernized if voters approve the $1.8 billion bond question on May 20. The bond measure would also include improvements across schools, including seismic upgrades and other key infrastructure improvements like HVAC.

Back in February, the board directed PPS staff to explore cost-saving changes to the high school improvement projects. On April 22, key staff members were set to give another update on their progress.

That discussion, however, was removed from the agenda a few days before.

A PPS spokesperson told KATU the agenda item was removed because it was meant to be a written update, not a discussion.

Board member Julia Brim-Edwards said the district’s explanation is "just not accurate" and that the item was "unilaterally removed" before the meeting.
