What happens if Derek Chauvin is pardoned?

1 min read

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and others on the far right are calling for President Trump to pardon Derek Chauvin, the ex-officer convicted in George Floyd’s killing. But even if he’s federally pardoned, his state sentence means he would stay in prison.

He was to sentenced 21 years in federal prison for violating Floyd’s civil rights and received 22.5-year sentence in state court for second-degree murder.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz told to the Minnesota Star Tribune that if a pardon happens that Chauvin would still serve his full time in Minnesota and this was echoed by state Attorney General Keith Ellison. Subscribe to The Washington Post on YouTube: https://wapo.st/2QOdcqK
