Oregon bill speeds up renaming process of places with offensive names

Oregon lawmakers are pushing forward to speed up the renaming process of geographic locations with derogatory names.

The bill builds on legislation passed in 2001 by then-state senator and former governor, Kate Brown, which aims to eliminate derogatory geographic names in Oregon. Since then, the Oregon Historical Society has compiled a list of 107 geographic locations bearing offensive names, but many remain unchanged.
