Eastern Cathay owners find peace after selling Portland restaurant plagued by troubles

It was May 2024 when Rong Mei called 911 in front of our cameras to plead for help.
Homeless camps surrounded his Eastern Cathay restaurant on NE 82nd Avenue, and his building had become awash with graffiti. The needle cleanup was daily. The couple feared for their lives and could not take it anymore.
The thought of selling their business was met with the reality that a potential buyer would bolt after witnessing their long list of troubles.
But after that call to 911, things started to change.
