Oregon’s first Jollibee restaurant prompts dozens of campers ahead of grand opening

The wait is finally over as Oregon’s first Jollibee restaurant officially opened Friday in Hillsboro’s Tanasbourne Village.

The popular Filipino-based fast-food chain specializing in fried chicken already has the community raving. The love for the establishment was in full effect Friday morning ahead of its grand opening, where dozens of Jollibee superfans camped out overnight to be among the first in line for the historic opening.

"I always have to go to Tukwila or Seattle," said Anthony, a Jollibee fan camped who says he had to travel out of state to get his hands on some of that crispy-crunch chicken the restaurant is known for cranking out.

For Jollibee fans in Oregon like Anthony, the trips to Washington just to get a taste have come to an end with the food chain opening in Hillsboro.

Jollibee’s "Chickenjoy", the nickname for their famous fried chicken, creates excitement and nostalgia for many.

"It’s a very popular establishment and they’re known for their Chickenjoy and a lot of Filipino dishes," Anthony told KATU. "I grew up with it when I was a kid."
