Portland to close Sunderland RV Safe Park, residents left in limbo

Ronnie Michael has been living at the Sunderland RV Safe Park since it opened nearly two years ago. Aside from the noise of the airplanes, he loves everything about it — especially the law and order.
"They don’t let people slide. You fight, you know, you do drugs or anything like that and you’re out the door, which is nice," said Michael.
KATU has been tracking Michael’s journey for three years. When we first met him, he was afraid to show his face. He’d been living along Northeast 33 Drive for a couple of years. The city had just tagged his RV with a warning that he had to leave or be towed.
"I don’t know. I’m just trying to find a place to park somewhere. Uh, hopefully my housing will come through soon," said Michael.
It did not. So, Michael, who’s 64 and has been disabled since childhood, kept moving — just trying to stay alive.
