DOGE subcommittee holds hearing examining how foreign aid ‘undermined’ US interests

The Delivering on Government Efficiency subcommittee, designed to work with the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), held a hearing Wednesday examining how foreign aid has "undermined" U.S. interests.

The hearing, titled "America Last: How Foreign Aid Undermined U.S. Interests Around the World," was announced Friday by the House Oversight Committee. Subcommittee members during the hearing will "expose egregious foreign aid spending that has undermined U.S. interests, review proposed reforms, and aid the Trump Administration’s efforts to rein in America’s bloated bureaucracy," according to a press release.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., chairwoman of the subcommittee, said in a statement the hearing comes as Americans are "shocked" to discover how "their taxpayer dollars have been spent overseas."

"What the DOGE team has uncovered with [the U.S. Agency for International Development] is shocking, but it’s just the tip of the iceberg," Rep. Greene said. "For decades now, the federal government has been sending billions after billions of dollars to push left-wing ideology, fund radical extremist groups, and usurp the will of the people abroad and here at home."

The subcommittee held its first hearing earlier this month, during which Democratic members raised concerns over Musk’s role in DOGE. Rep. Melanie Stansbury, D-N.M., called on Musk, who was not present at the hearing, to testify before the subcommittee.

"Come and testify in front of the American people under oath because we want to know what you’re up to," Rep. Stansbury said.
