As fraud reports in Oregon hit $12.5B last year, expert warns of rising scam tactics

Consumers reported losing $12.5 billion to fraud last year, according to the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business services.

That’s up 25 percent from 2023.

Stephanie Ziegler with Selco Community Credit Union joined arc pdx on Tuesday to talk about some of the most common scams they are seeing, like the fraudulent text message scams, and how people can keep their money and information safe.

Ziegler also talked about some of the red flags people should watch for if they’re unsure whether a message is real or a scam.
